Hi All,

Retreat to Calais is indeed "on" for this year. It will be the Third Weekend in May (21/22), actually beginning Friday afternoon, and ending Monday. The event occurs in Hardwick, Mass,

The theme for this year will be the Battle of Brustem, 1467, which was during the last rebellion of the Liegois.

Further details will appear shortly, including guidelines, directions, and registration information.

(Edited to put the right date in, Late October (20 somethingth, 1467. The last struggle of Liege was almost a year to the day later, but Brustem was the last field battle)

Hi all,

If my memory serves me right, the Battle of Brustem took place on October 28th 1467...

Saint-Trond was besieged 2 days earlier...

I'm eager to get more info on Retreat to Calais !

The site is arranged and Bob is putting together the info reagrding the event.

Much of this hinges on the Insurance Issue that John N and others are trying to lay it to rest. Hopefully we will have word on that by Sunday.

We have folks in Canada that are interested.

Hi All,

The insurance issue is going forward, and soon there should be an umbrella orginization for both US groups, and Canadian groups who might be interested in participating, and getting insurance that will cover events in the US and Canada as well.

We are still on track for the third weekend in May - I will tentatively suggest that registration will be between $25-$30 US - this will cover the site fee, provide portable toilets, and provide hay. The more people who register, the lower the fee will be. As soon as we have our provider, I will officially announce the event, and begin officially registering attendants.

I should add this, I'd like to get the registration fee down to $15-$20. If we can get as many as 40 attendees, we should be at that level.

If groups could begin giving numbers of attendees from each group expected (as Evelyn and Greys have), I should be able to get the fee and registration situation quickly in order.

Chef

I am for sure going to be there, 2004 was lots of fun.

Are we going to do combat again? If so are del tin swords going to be good?

Also what about archery and polearms? I am thinking of ordering one of those blunted pole arms the Brits use and getting some bird blunt tiped arrows.

Thanks

Hi James,

Yep, Del Tin swords are good. As for archery and polearms, see the tentative rules section undere the Armet forum. I am working on a modification of these for the insurer John N. is working to get us all.

Looking at my calander, it looks like the Dates would be arrival on Friday, 19 May, scenarios Sat 20/Sun 21, and pack up and head out from the evening of the 21 - the Monday 22. Just to clarify dates for everyone. If the event goes smoothly, and is well recieved, I work toward getting it extended to a week long affair, if it is possible with the property owner.

Thanks Chef,

I reread the first part of the armet topic and it seems the items I am looking at come right into line with the upcoming rules.

Hi Evelyne,

The event is going forward, we are hammering out the last details of the umbrella orginization that will be getting insurance for the various groups involved.

I haven't taken any money, or officially solicited registrations until this detail is solved, because if the insurence *doesn't* go through, there can be no event.

As an aside, if the kinks aren't hammered out in short order, and insurance isn't assured for Calais this year, I don't think Wolfe Argent will be putting up the funds to belong to the umbrella orginization. I don't think I can get my members to contribute, if we can't hold our event due to potential member groups dickering over small details, and putting everything together too late to be of any benefit to us.

I'm interested in joining up with Wolfe Argent for Saturday. I won;t be able to stick around for Sunday, unfortunately - another event.

I have only the clothing requirements (from Higgins Sword Guild) - Is there a good source for obtaining a Ballock or Basilard dagger? I'm interested in being a Halberdier, as I'm used to that with W.A. guys at Higgins.

Looking forward to this!

Is there a website for the event yet?
Is it still called Retreat to Calais or is it now the Battle of Brustem?
Is there going to be information on the Battle of Brustem posted or on the website?
Is there need for more sources on said conflict?

The Insurance plan is moving forward and will hopefully be finalized shortly.

If it doesn't happen in time for May, we are checking with the property owner to see if we can potentially push the event back a month or so. We are determined to host hold it this year.

We will update this area as new information becomes available.

Thanks for hanging in there.

That's great news (I hope). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all will be worked out, and soon. I'm not sure if Jeff, Henry and I will be able to make it, but we're going to try.

There is some news about the event?

Unfortunately, time begin to be too short for us to be there...

I think at this point, with Insurance still hanging out there, it's too late for May. We're seeing if we can move it for later in the summer.
