I have been to a medievil times performance and I know it is not 100% accurate or anything but I noticed some things being a horse person and a avid equeatrain.

my queations are

1. I noticed that all the knights wore black half-chaps with black boots but back in medevil times did they wear tall leather riding boots?

2. I am almost 100% certain that thier saddles they used are the wintec enduracne saddles but what would kind of saddle would knights have used back then?

3. I noticed that if they trotted they did not post ( also known as risiing or working trot), they sat it but at a rennesaance festival the MC guy did a posting trot and he was overseeing a jousting match and for the medievil times jousting it looked like either a canter or fast trot or a full out gallop but it was harder to tell which one it was

4. I also noticed that all of the knights wore spurs, back then were spurs common?

thanks in advance for any answers

It all depends on when and where the knights came from. Medieval Times would not be any thing to measure historical accuracy by.

Yes, many riders, not just knights would wear thigh high riding boots, which could almost be equated with chaps. I'm only familiar with the 15th century.

Equestrians in earlier times were not unlike modern equestrians and their pursuits. They had different types of saddles for different types of activities; war saddles, hunting saddles, pack saddles, side saddles, etc...So it all depends on what the equestrian was doing.

Not sure what your question is with number 3. Knights or men of station usually had a quality ambling horse. Modern equitation as we've come to know it didn't seem to really begin until the 1520s and 30s with the Italian school of horsemanship.

4. Spurs were relatively common to riders of all classes, not just knights. The only differences may be material and decoration. Though again, it would largely depend on time and place to get a more precise answer.

Others may chime in.

Hope this helps.
