Hello!

I seem to remember an thread on historical linings, but just can't find it now. Can anyone suggest a good source of info on historically accurate lining? I find info on the layers, but nothing on how lining and garment are joined, seam finishes, that sort of thing...

Thanks!

What century in specific? There are some nice late 13th century or early 14th century images showing the interior of fur lined cloaks, that give an idea as to how thata sort of lining was undertaken.

Second half 15th century is best. Sorry I forgot that...
But I'm also interested in earlier periods.

Thanks!

Some of the Flemish Masters, it might be Rogier Van Der Weyden, that shows an execution scene and the man's doublet is rolled down and you can see the lining.

Howard Household books talk about different types of doublet and long gown linings from linen to fur.

Thank you both!! I'll try to find a detail of that. At least how the edges are done is quite clear.

Thanks!
