Reading Boardman's "The Medieval Soldier in the War of the Roses" I came across the muster roll for the village of Ewelme. Names, abilities and military equipment are listed for each man mustered. Some are described having: -a harness -whole harness -no harnessI understand what 'no harness' and 'whole harness' means, believe it or not, but what exactly is just plain 'harness'? Are they describing just bits and pieces of armour, such as a breastplate or helmet, that the person may own? Or is there more to it than that? [ 02-27-2009: Message edited by: Andrew Trollope ]
