Just to clarify about the 'conquest anglo-French' section. Are these the commands the U.K. reenactment group 'conquest' use, or are they orders from the time of the conquest. They seem very similar to modern french-English. Is this normal for Anglo-Norman, or are these orders slightly inauthentic? They just seem a bit modern? Thanks for your help Buran. If seigneur de Leon could find his sources that would be fantastic. Cheers everybody!

FolksI'm the bloke that did the research for the 'Anglo-Norman' orders for Conquest. The commands used are in Old French, Romanz, of which Anglo-Norman is a dialect, and were supplied by Catherine Hanley, one of the UK's top medieval manuscript translators. I was astonished at how close some of the words are phrases were to modern French, but as these came from a recognised expert, I did not argue. As Conquest generally specialise in the 12th century, in which this dialect would have been common among the aristocratic classes, we stuck with that. I originally attempted to find orders in original Norman, but with no success - if anyone can find a source, please let me know. Might be worth checking out her book 'War and Combat in Old French Literature'.

By the way,The commands I sourced are not the ones originally published in 'Runestaff' - see Buran's link to the article. Brendan
