Hi Bob and all,

the best repros I´ve ever seen are made by a german craftsman- Jens Sensfelder. He studied european crossbows in museums and collections for several years. I met him on a historical festival in Germany and could lay my hands on a late- gothic war crossbow and windlass he made.
I´ve never seen anything that could surpass this one. They are far away from those mentioned above.
I have some pictures I found anywhere in the net and can email them if desired.

Greetings

Peter

Hi Peter,

Any contact information and pictures would be greatly appreciated. Also, any idea as to costs?

Herr Müller,

I second Chef's request for contact information. (We're in the same group.) I would very much like to have a true reproduction made similar to Ingo's.

Vielen Dank!

The two links I found were:
http://www.thebeckoning.com/medieval/crossbow/xbow-resources.html
http://www.selten-handwerk.de/sh-neu/aktuelles.html

Peter,

Is this crossbow from link two an example of Jens work? Or is it a picture of a historical example? And a fine one at that!

Thanks!

Indeed, the crossbows at web page (category "absolut einmalig") are made by Jens.
His email adress is Jens.Sensfelder@t-online.de
I don´t want to lie, but I think a late gothic crossbow and windlass are around 3500 EUR. A lot of money, but you won´t look after an other if you have seen that thing in real...

Best regards and good luck (as usual with good craftsmen, I think Jens has a certain backlog...)!

Peter

I will gladly inquire. What I am looking for is a similar armbrust that is drawn by eine deutsche Zahnstangenwinde (crannequin).
