Folks,
I saw a reference to the Brotherhood of St. Mark, a fight club in Nuremberg that Albrecht Durer was a member of, in the new Talhoffer translation. Does anyone know where I might find more info on them? Since my group is set in 1499 Nuremberg, I'd love to know more.
Thanks,
Jamie

Howdie there,
I'm new to the list so this is a hello to everyone. Now as to your question. The Brotherhood of St. Mark, or rather the Marxbruder, where one of two fencing guilds around during the late Medieval and Renaissance Periods in the Germanies and Austria. The Marxbruder is the older of the two schools with their style having more of an emphasis on the cut then the thrust. (As opposed to the Federfechters, featherfighters, who in the Italian tradition were making greater use of the rapier and thrusts. Now as to where you can find out more about them just go to any good search engine and type in marxbruder, you should get some good hits back. Personally I recommend www.google.com as I have always had great luck with them. Best of luck to you.

I'm currently on the way on putting up a new site coping with nuremberg (where I was born and I'm living near, and what I'm portrying the the 15th century).
Still small, is planned to grow, and give help to people reenacting nuremberg.
Only flaw- will be german language only. http://www.nuernberg-im-mittelalter.de
