Hi Morpheus!Welcome to Firestryker! quote: Originally posted by Morpheus: Hi everybody! I would like you to discuss this kit for a flemish (Liege origin) pikeman (1460-1470).
Well, 1460-68, Liege was in effect destroyed as a municipality, with soldiers belonging to it by the end of 1468. For the rest of Charles the Bolds life, only 300 dwellings existed in the town, solely for the use of ecclisiastic persons, although the Burgundians erected a castle tp prevent any further gatherings of rebelious persons, and to extract a toll on vessels passing down the Muse. quote:
1. Padded jack, such as on Memling Ursula's passion http://www.clubliege.ru/upload/Andre/Forum/15Project/Jack.jpg
Good choice, one of the most common forms of armour, and very under-done, at least here in the states. quote: 2. Breastplate such as this, from Castle Granson (but without backplate) http://www.clubliege.ru/upload/Andre/Forum/15Project/cuirass.jpg
Another good choice, the effect of a fussknechtbrust worn over a jack is very distinctively HRE, and is obviously seen in Low Countries art, as per the St. Ursula reliquary.I'll have to take a look at the rest in a little bit, more comments to follow. quote: 3. Bevor from this kit http://www.clubliege.ru/upload/Andre/Forum/15Project/bever05.jpg 4. Chapel-de-fer http://www.clubliege.ru/upload/Andre/Forum/15Project/1450_2.jpg http://www.clubliege.ru/upload/Andre/Forum/15Project/1450_3.jpg 5. Leather gauntlets such as this (this is the weaker point) http://www.clubliege.ru/upload/Andre/Forum/15Project/gauntlets01.jpg or if this is't fit - this one mittens http://www.clubliege.ru/upload/Andre/Forum/15Project/gauntlets02.jpg I didn't plan any leg armor. What do you think about it all? PS. I beg your pardon for my poor english. [ 10-05-2007: Message edited by: Morpheus ] [ 10-05-2007: Message edited by: Morpheus ]

Okay, from having looked at the rest, you are doing very well, the only exception to accuracy I see is the kettlehat, which is distinctly eastern HRE in that particular form (Bohemia, ect.) It has a distinctive, flared crown, which is not seen in Flemish art. In Flanders, a kettlehat would much more commonly have had a deep, shaped brim, like the example seen in the Royal Armouries in Leeds, or the Metropolitan Museum example in New York, with the fluted, faceted dome. The leather mits are cold weather grear, and not armour, and you would definitely be better off with the munition Italian style gauntlets you posted. It looks like you did a lot of research, and you are definitely on the track of an excellent kit. -------------------- Bob R.

Hi Morpheus,The first choice would definitely fit the bill better, and the link you posted to the MET example is indeed the one I was talking about - the brim is downturned to a large degree over the ears, making a very protective helmet. This is more typical of the Western HRE and France/Burgundy. The Royal armouries example is nearly identical to the MET example, except the skull of the helmet is smooth, instead of faceted. -------------------- Bob R.
