I and my family are preparing for a summer of camping and events for our little family group that we call the Knights of Ichthus. This year I think we are going to focus in on the time period of the First Crusade. I am looking for a resource that will help me to learn about the clothing (civilian as well as military) and of course arms and armour of, well, let's say the English of that time period. I am teaching myself to sew and would love to be able to find/alter patterns to make garments for the family. Any resources you may have (types of clothing, materials used, commonly used colors, etc) would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for books, web sites, anything that will help me.
Thanks in advance,
Eric

Hello Eric,

If you go to the Re-enactment directory, the first listing is for a group that does 12th Century. The website is in French, but the member that listed it understands English. Perhaps he can point you in the right direction. Good luck to you!

Ah a classic case of me "asking questions first and shooting later." Thanks, I'll give that a shot.

Ha! Ron, I haven't contacted the member yet, and I am really glad. I am on the verge of looking really foolish I guess. After minimal research on the first crusade, I can't find that the English were involved in it. I have found that the French were heavily involved. So, it appears that your suggestion is even better than I originally thought. Thanks much!
