I've recently been told that eating chicken was forbidden by the Cistercians. All I can find on a brief web trawl was that Benedictines were banned or discouraged from eating meat from four-legged animals as well as chickens.

Is it the same for the Cistercians, and if so would the rule apply for guests visiting their premesis?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers Brent, thought you'd be able to help. A member recently got told about it at a late-medieval event for cooking chicken at a Cistercian site. Just wondered how much of the rule was practically adhered to.
