Hi,I am posting the games here for some feedback.
Archery Games:
The archery contest will consist of 4 separate games. These will be Target shooting, Clout shooting, Speed Shooting, and Flight (distance) shooting.
The basic target will be a standard 5 color (white, black, blue, red, and gold) 60 cm target. The scoring will be 2 points for white through blue, red = 4 points, gold = 8 points. A pass through or bounce off will count as 3 points. Other games will utilized targets design for the needs of the game
If archers prefer we will also use a target based on the Lutrell Psalter. This target will also be 60 cm and consisting of 3 colors white, green and gold. Scoring will be white = 2 points, green = 4 points, gold = 8 points. A pass through or bounce off will count as 3 points.
The Games:
Target shooting
Target shooting will be at the target described above at varying distances 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 yards. Each archer will shoot 1 dozen arrows at each distance scoring will be as described as above.
Clout shooting
Clout shooting will be at a round target face of 30 inches (76cm) diameter, the face of which is white with a 4 inch (10cm) black spot at the centre. The target is placed on the ground at an angle of 45 degrees. Chalk circles are drawn on the ground at intervals of 18 inches mimicking those found on a standard modern target. The scoring is 6 for the clout, 5 for the first ground circle, then 4, 3, 2, 1, for succeeding circles going outwards from the clout itself. The distances used are 80, 100, 120, 140, and 180 yards. Clout shooting will be two-way with the clouts or “spots” at opposite end of the field. Archers will shoot from one end of the field to the other walk, retrieve their arrows, and shoot to the other clout. The archers will shoot a total of 4 times between the two targets.
Flight shooting
This contest is basically a distance contest. The longest marked distance for this contest will be 300 yards. This may be open to modification depending on the bow weights present at the contest. The range will be 30 yards wide and have intervals are marked at the distances of 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300 yards. Three arrows are shot per participant and only those arrows landing within the flight corridor score. Scoring will be 2 points for a shot in the 100-200 yard mark, 4 points for 250 yards, and 8 points for the 300 yard mark. An additional bonus score of 2 points will be awarded to the furthest arrow.
Speed shooting
This type of shooting is to practice shooting the maximum number of arrows within a given time. Usually the arrows are shot at a one-way clout. Participants stick as many arrows as they think they can shoot in a minute into the ground in front of them. At the signal, the shooting starts. After one minute the archers will be signaled to stop. The archers will be given 1 point for each arrow in the outer ring of the clout. For obvious reasons the archer who shoots most quickly, but does not have any arrows within the circle does not score. The archers will shoot 4 rounds for this competition.
The winner of the contest will be the archer with the highest total points scored. In the event of a tie, the participants will have a shoot off consisting of 4 games. The participants will shoot 1 round of 6 arrows each.
