Hi Folks!

We realize that this may seem a bit early for some but perhaps this way the word will get out to all who might be interested and plans can be made accordingly.

Paston IV is being planned for 29 September - 1 October 2006. Lord Grey’s Retinue invites you to the gentle hills of south central Pennsylvania for Paston IV. With activities to interest just about everyone, guests are welcomed to authentically immerse themselves in the fifteenth century.

There is a preliminary page at: paston site

Announcement Flyer and Registration Form is available at:
paston registration

Thank you!

I can't speak to the military side of the scneario, but for those interested in religion, we're going to do the baptism scenario this year. Since Henry is too old this year to do it, we're generously providing another baby for the scenario. It's a limited time offer, though, and if we miss it now, we're not going to keep doing this year after year.

Some of the particulars, for example, who is going to be the priest, are not nailed down yet. We have had some interest from the priest in John's church, who is versed in "educational baptisms". We are not planning on performing the actual sacrament, but instead, doing a version that is respectful, and intended in an educational manner.

Cheers,
Charlotte

Ahh I must have been confused. Most events I have been to have had a scenario that contained the event and encompassed the reason why people would be in that particular place.

For example.
Retreat to Calais was originally the English returning to Calais after successfully striking a deal with Louis XI and varios minor confrontations between English and Burgundian ofrces and this last year was to deal with the battle of Brustem or them green tent people or something.

The old Red company Bates Farm event was a military camp in the aftermath of Tewksbury but the year later it was a camp at the muster of Arras.

Or the event in Canada last October dealt with the Battle of Monthlery in 1465.

Or for example the year Kass and Bob ran it the scenario was a conflict between two lords over the manor of Upper Bazeley while the steward was trying to hold court.

Dear Brent,

A preliminary flyer has been available at Paston Flyer for some time. It was announced earlier in this thread.

A number of people have been working very hard in putting this event together - one of the few 15th C events that could come together this year. As you may know, a number of 14th and 15th events will not happen this year as several groups could not follow through on committing to an umbrella group that would have carried insurance and educational non profit status for all . . . the land owner donating the use of the Paston site is obtaining an insurance rider to make sure this event happens.

The Paston event will be based on a scenario of various "Yorkist"* households moving their families to safer places in anticipation of being called to the King's service again. A number of these groups have camped near one another and Lord Grey has invited a few to join in a celebration of Michaelmas.

Marking the day will be a Mass, contests of arms, archery, an appropriate meal and other activities depending on people's inclinations (music, equestrian sports, etc.)

It is hoped that followers of the false king do not happen across the encampment but they are rumored to be in the area . . . (this is one of tactical scenarios)

I hope this gives you more of an idea of what is being planned and your (as is anyones) input is always welcome

Please do not hesitate to ask any further questions.

Thank you for your interest.

*it is realized that various non English groups will be there -

I just tried to download the flyer and ended up with a lot of garbage: i.e. the font is gone and has been replaced by true type. Did you convert the fonts into outline before saving it as a pdf? Or can you tell me what font you used because I don't appear to have it on my Mac.

thanks,

Db

Then let's call the baptism thing a side "activity", just so there's no confusion.

Dear Brent,

I really do not know. They are certainly welcome - from what I have seen, they certainly meet the kit requirements.

Yours,

John
