This comes to mind:The Lam Gods altarpiece by van Eyck
Too bad the new citymuseum only opens in October of 2010.
In the belfry is a statue of a 1340s militiaman and the metal skeleton of a 1380s windiron in the form of a fire breathing dragon that stood on the belfry for centuries.
There's also the
Gravensteen, graaf = count, steen = stone
so the 'stone' of the counts, their castle. Not a gravestone. It houses a small collection of arms and armour; some 14th/15th c. guns, a maille shirt, a early 16th c. suit of armour, some 14th or 15th c. goedendags and a row of 17th c. judicial swords (beheading, chopping of hands, you know). Non arms related, finds of a hammer and a axe.
