HI All,

We attended the NH renn Fair this weekend past, as a part of our negotiations for future events on the property the Fair is held on. While it was a typical fantasy Ren Fair, it did give us a civilian population to interact with, so we took o the role of a 'garrison' imposed on them. We also got to teach some good lessons straight froim judicial records in Burgundian territory, why armies were usually found as unpleasant companions for a civilian population.

The comic that follows is inspired by some of our activities at the fair - pardon any farbiness, one of the persons in a line up is a young girl 'pirate', volunteer, from another group, that 'stole' some valuables from a vendor, for a scripted mob confrontation, so her only borrowed kit is an over large livery, a glaive, and a helmet....

Edited to add, that the hapless 'victim' in the comic, is John Ramsden, of Nevilles.

Now everybody knows why we're into living history -- 'cause we'll all get rich!

Very funny comic -- and a clever way to share some pictures.
Thanks

Thanks. The image that inspired it was the very last one. I almost had a..."add a caption contest".

Two things came to mind. Either they "eliminated" someone, or someone stepped in something to nasty to show. (Of course no one did) and no friends were injured in the making of this comic.

How was the experience for you? Having done LH at Ren Fairs for three years, I'd be interested in how you thought it went...

It's all about mindset. If you walk in as a re-enactor expecting a re-enactment of high historical standard then the experience will not be a good one.

We walked in expecting a ren faire and all that entails: pirates, tails worn from belts, bad leather and studded armour, jousting with bread sticks (they were jesters), etc...etc... Because we expected these things, we were not disappointed or surprised when we found them. We had fun. We tended to enjoy the experience a little more because we just "dropped" the historic 'tude' and relaxed; rolling with whatever came our way.

We met a lot of nice people, had fun, and showed them that being historically minded and kitted out could be fun too. We impressed a lot of people when we actually dug a fire pit, cooked over a fire with a bronze cauldron and ate what we had prepared; all without setting the field on fire.

Now, if I saw stuff like this at a historic re-enactment or LH event...the response would be VERY different.

I think the response would be what the comic suggested
