Please feel free to move this elsewhere, if you feel the need to.

This 'ere link Medieval Boot Camp got me thinking.

I love the idea of the various UK based groups getting together to share knowledge and expertise in the absence of the public at the start of the season for them.

Do we think there is a need for something like this over here? Would you attend?

Discuss....

It's an intriguing idea, the major issues I see, are time and location, and topics of interest.

Unlike the UK, the US has a huge geographic footprint. That's not to say that groups or individuals won't travel, it's just sometimes it's really difficult. We've been trying to get out to California again, but vacation time hasn't permitted us to do it.

We've gone to California and Canada, members of Grey's have gone to England and Canada, but as a whole it would really have to be worth while and in a location that was relatively equal in travel distance for all.

Occasionally we've been able to get together with Grey's throughout the years, we're both east coast, one central one northern.

Whereabouts do you hail from?

As a group, La Belle Compagnie does something a little like this. Twice a year we have a "gathering" where we get together all weekend and do this sort of stuff. People prepare topics that help the whole group, and teach a mini class. We also prepare and practice period recipes for our Saturday evening dinner.

Topics might include shoemaking, 14th century earworms (tunes you just can't shake), How to Swear in Middle English, etc. We occasionally get dressed and do practice questions, as if the public were visiting.

I don't know where you are, but the Redesdale Event in PA (on the event section of the forum) is not open to the public. We don't have classes, but it will all be good practice of staying in character for a whole weekend.

South Florida for me, so it really doesn't matter where it is, I'll have to travel a distance.

So saying, I have sent a link to Redesdale to everyone in the group. I know I am interested, but the rest of the group, we'll have to see.
