I think I know what event this is, it's in France just over the border with Belgium, april 2006, and I heard it even snowed then. It's called Franchimont, a reenactor only-event (no public) and it seems to be quite big.

Kind of a renfaire with swords stuck in the ground, tents with awnings, viking horns hanging on chains, candles on sticks burning during the day. I wish they had at least made it look like there were aiming the guns they fired, other than just firing them. It was good to see the flat cast on the bows, obviously a higher poundage. But it was done by the local TV station I believe, so they would have little control over what was highlighted. Overall it was a great looking encampment.

Woodcrafter, I think the thing with a lot of the guns was people either clearing the gun or test firing, it looked like that to me.

Bit unfair to compare it to a renfair though!

Looks more like an SCA Baronial bash to me j/k looks like a lot of fun, no public to ask if the fire is real or not.

Also, is there any XVc group in America with cannon?

yes in Canada ( Montreal) we ( Compagnons d'armes) have just finished cannon #1 and are working on #2 for this winter. They are both made thks to the Wolf's help in mailing us die burgunderbeute. Each gun ( just the gun) weighs 485lbs. This spring i will post some pictures when both are completely finished. Gun #1 has fired real shots so that the balistic tests would be legal for insurances. We also have a ribaudequin finished.

Tod, I heard a worse question than "is that fire real?" this season, I'm trying to avoid thinking about it as it would force me to realise that the person who asked it went through the same education system as me.
