Greetings! Do any one have any information how it was look like? Godefroid Kurth in "La CitÈ de LiÕge au Moyen-Age" mentoned that "comte Herman de Salm, qui portait l'Ètendard de saint Lambert". And the other sources pointed to the fact that citizens of Liege often go to war under this banner. Thanks in advance! -------------------- Liege Cite Ardent www.clubliege.ru

That is a good question, but I do not think we have an answer. The standard was taken from Liege in 1468, and no longer exists, and there is no good description. If indeed it was a standard, then it would likely be in the form of an right triangle with an elongated point - we have images of several extant Medieval standards, and some pictorial records of Burgundian standards once extant, but now fragmentary (illustrated in Florens Deuchler's "Die Burgunderbeute") In the case of extant images and fragments, and going by examples like sketches and descriptions of Joan of Arc's banner, the ground of the flag would be linen, or given its provenance, possibly silk, over a linen core, with a gold leaf image of the saint, with his 'attributes'. But we have no idea as to its colour, or if it had a motto placed on it. [ 10-04-2007: Message edited by: Fire Stryker ] -------------------- ad finem fidelis

Sure! Once we have insurance to cover a third party, so we can have an event on somebody's property, we will put another field event together, and you will of course be invited! It is a big problem in the United States, property owners are afraid of being sued, and they ask reenactment groups to provide third party insurance coverage, so they cannot be sued. This is very expensive, and most US medieval groups are currently unable to afford such insurance. -------------------- Bob R.
