Hi,It's been a while since a posted something, but I really need your help. In a month a friend of mine marries, in a medieval theme. And I'm making a coat/cote for over my 15th cent outfit. I had this great redbrownish boiled wool. Very nice. But as I start cutting the wool, I noticed I'm missing enough fabric for one sleeve. And the fabricstore doesn't have any of that wool left. So my question is if there is any evidence of coats/cotes with different colours as sleeves. -------------------- I reject your reality and substitute my own

Chef is right, mi-parti is/ was quite commen. But you could of course go for our whacky German style: sleeves in an other colour than the rest of the garment, set in in a teardrop-fashion. Was used afaik only in Germany around the 1430-1450.Here´s an exapmle by Hans Multscher, from the "Wurzacher Passionsaltar", 1437: Wurzacher Passionsaltar by Hans Muluscher, 1437: "Kreuztragung Christi" Cheers, Tomasz -------------------- ---------------------------------- Tomasz Nowak Evocatio Ratisbonensis 1470 www.evocatio.de

There are a few, but not many, depictions of this kind of sleeve. One is for example the barber from the "Ambrasser Hofämterspiel" card deck, ca. 1455. Here the garment is in one colour, but you can clearly see the teardrop-seam on the sleeve.Barber from the Hofämterspiel Cheers, Tomasz -------------------- ---------------------------------- Tomasz Nowak Evocatio Ratisbonensis 1470 www.evocatio.de
