Hi everybody,I'm looking for information about the 14th/15th century barrel padlocks found in york, published in "Craft, Industry and Everyday Life: Finds from Medieval York ". Unfortunatly, everywhere I tried it, the book was out of stock. Does by chance somebody have this book and/or photos, or better, x-rays or sketches of the padlocks found there? -------------------- Diu Minnezīt Reconstruction of textiles, armour and daily life 1250,1350,1475 Nuremberg and Paris http://www.diu-minnezit.de IG Meisterhauw Reconstruction of late medieval and early renaissance fencing techniques http://www.meisterhauw.de Nuremberg in the middle ages http://www.nuernberg-im-mittelalter.de

I don't know of what you mean off hand, but it may be what this site sells. There are a half dozen locks there of various sized, also keys. He used to sell reproductions, but I don't see any offered atm. Get the original and treat it as a master.a number of barrel locks 13 - 14thc [ 02-06-2007: Message edited by: Woodcrafter ] -------------------- Woodcrafter 14th c. Woodworking

No, actually these locks are quite plain, iron, more like a lever padlock. The mechanismu is different from the brass barral padlocks. I only have a photo of a rusty find, unfortunatly not the complete specs, I only know that it was part of the york excavations.-------------------- Diu Minnezīt Reconstruction of textiles, armour and daily life 1250,1350,1475 Nuremberg and Paris http://www.diu-minnezit.de IG Meisterhauw Reconstruction of late medieval and early renaissance fencing techniques http://www.meisterhauw.de Nuremberg in the middle ages http://www.nuernberg-im-mittelalter.de
