I guess I'd better introduce myself, since I've already opened my mouth on a couple of things. When I was little, my favorite book was Holling C. Holling's _The Big Book of Cowboys_, which described life on a cattle ranch in the old west. I guess that really began my fascination with "life as it used to be." I joined the SCA in 1979 and The Renassance Pleasure Faire in 1980. I have been active only sporadically in the SCA but managed to hook in with some groups at Faire that did a decent job at living history. Not perfect, but a heck of a lot better than peasants in gauze skirts. I've been inactive for a couple of years (moving, getting my teaching credential, etc.) but that ol' living history urge is rearing its ugly head again <evil grin> (what? no "evil grin" smiley?) so I've reactivated my SCA membership. Saturday, I was at a tourney and came home disgusted. Then I found this forum. Thank you! Luanne/Irmele, not feeling quite so alone

Welcome aboard (no pun intended ). It's a little late on the East Coast, at least for me, but the AC is non-functional/offline/what-have you. The temp outside somewhere around 80F, is cooler than the temp in the house so I am up burning the pre-midnight oil. Welcome and make yourself at home. The board might be a little slow for the next 2 weeks as folks are probably wandering the wilds of PA taking part at Pennsic. Cheers, Jenn -------------------- ad finem fidelis

Hi guys, I've just joined this list, and thought I'd introduce myself before lurking back into the shadows for a while. I'm part of a small (OK VERY small) living history group that runs by the name of Calais, based in Brisbane, Australia. We have focussed on late 15th Central European (Burgundian, French, some Spanish and Italian), and are trying to get our camp and personal effect up to scratch. We have yet to do much WRT martial matters, ,but the recent addition of a translation of Talhoffer may change that. I have been primarily reponsible for research and construction of pavillions, and have completed three so far, with a fourth in the pipes. We have a bit of a void WRT primary material in Australia, so we've been forced to rely upon secondary documentation for our research. This forum seems to be a great place to find brains to pick, so I'll probably lurk until I have questions to post or see an interesting brain to pick. Anyway, I'll hopefully talk to many of you soon.Lyle McMillen

I know there have been more new members since 2002 so I will just say hello. And please accept my compliments to the designers of the site. it is excellent indeed, not all forums are so well presented. Very nice to see the very erudite and really nice bloke dave key on board. Sorry dave but i am not stalking you, and blame GN for putting me to this site. See you in the other place perhaps And best thing is I don't need to use emoticons or 'slang' unless I want to. ;-) w00t lol etc [ 09-02-2004: Message edited by: gregory23b ] -------------------- history is in the hands of the marketing department - beware!
