I'm trying to put together another mid-late 1300's harness, and trying to do it without spending a fortune. I purchased an Italian harness from Illusion Armoury during one of their 'positive' periods, and before I really started researching authenticity. Well, I believe that the elbows and knees, along with the wings which are oversized compared to the late 14th C stuff I've seen, are a precursor to the oversized seperate couters (if I remember correctly) that came later in the 15th C. Okay, my question is even though the fans on the knees and elbows are oversized, would they pass as mid to late 14th C armour? Or do I have to purchase all new arms and legs? Here is a link to their website to check out the arms. http://www.illusionarmoring.com/

Hi Todd,

Those are really big for what you are doing. I hate to say it, but I think if you want to be accurate, you will have to get new arms.

My main problem is generally such as "14th century". Well yes- what time exactly?
"14th Century Full Arms"- where? when?
I mean, the harness in the 14th century went through a very fast development, with full arms already being in use in the 1340s in france.
So, "mid-to-late" is simply not accurate enough.
Either mid, or either late. And if, better a precise year.
1360's Arms look different than 1380's arms.

I assume you mean this

Well the helmet is sort of a mutaed great bascinet.

It has basegews which that size and style i thought were 15th century.

The Body is sorta like the Pisonia alter piece so thats like 1370's

To me the arms look like a mix of early 15th and 16th pieces

The guants look ok
The legs may be ok i can't see the fans and i think the sabatons overlap the wrong way.

Plus i believe the piece in the pic is stainless steel.

I have some pieces from Illusion

i was underwhelmed with the whole experience in general.

Well actually, no, that is not the suit that I am talking about. If you go back to their website and take a look at the harness below it, the 15th century Italian. That's the one that I own, but after further research on my own I have found that it is not quite so out of touch as I 1st thought it was. Mine is better looking in person than the one on the website to thank goodness.
