I've struck out multiple times in finding a history of this fabric, can anyone point me at a resource or offer comment?

Hi Bob, from what I have found from multiple sources is that the fabric dates back to 17th century France. Apparently worn by the monarch's servants. It is also known as "Corde du Roi" or "Cord of the King."

Cheers,

Jenn
