i am completly new to living history and own nothing but swords so i am a blank slate as far as kit goes. i want to represent an italian or savoy mercinary in the service of good old charles the bold. here is what i was thinking from matuls green burgundian stile dublet, charcoal gray hosen with the foot built in, 15th century shirt with tie neck, braies and italian stile hatfrom historic enterprises turnshoes eventualy mitten gauntlets, visored export sallet, and padded jack im making a rondel now and will begin a period longsword soon. will machine stiching be fine? i would apreciate any coments/critacism you have, i want to do this right thanks -------------------- ARMA NYC Apprentice to John Lundemo of OdinBlades Certavi Et Vici

Hi Sean, most groups are okay with the machine stitching as long as any visible seams or finishing touches are hand done. I tend to shy away from mixing clothing styles, Burgundian with an Italian hat. If you are a "new" recruit or have only just arrived in Burgundy, then you would probably have a suit of clothing in the Italian fashion and would eventually adopt the look of Burgundy as time passes. Gwen may have a better notion of the Italian styles and other suggestions. I'll let the armour guys answer the question on metal stuff. -------------------- ad finem fidelis

Ditto to what Gwen said - even though there are very few 15th century groups here stateside, the ones that exist tend to have wildly different ideas of what constitutes accuracy for their portrayals. For instance, with Wolfe Argent we strictly look to Low Countries sources for laying out what the various portrayals clothing and harness styles should be - not only art, butinventories and other documents. Other groups are perfectly fine with looking primarily to art, and to art of varying regions as well when determining such standards. Some groups have a very narrow focus, others span a decade or more of time (but still a very narrow focus in comparison to larger medievalist orginizations). Always check with a groups authenticity officers before investing hard earned money into kit which might be innapropriate. -------------------- Bob R.
