Hi Bob,I think a sapper/pioneer would be an excellent impression. As you mention, a single one makes a lot more sense than a single miner. All you need for defensive armour going by the Burgundian source originaly quoted ia a jack and a sallet, and a woodsmans axe wouldn't be hard to come by. It would be a unique impression of a useful, indespensible support troop, and it wouldn't bankrupt youputting together an impression. -------------------- ad finem fidelis

I can offer a book suggestion. A few pages here and there but it's a good start...SIEGE - Castles at War Mark Donnelly and Daniel Diehl Only a half a dozen pages but a good quick overview about sapping in general with a few good diagrams Probably some of the better mining books or documents would all be in German as that was a major industry especially for Western Germany towards Cologne (Köln).
For anyone wanting an appreciation to actually mining... I got to see the massive underground mining exhibit at the Deutsches Museum in Munich. (Not recommended for people who get claustrophobic.)

Hello, Do you talk about a burgundian source dealing specifically with defensive armour for pioneers? If it's the case, I'd love to read the quote... Cheers, Loïc -------------------- Authenticity is not a way to re-enact. It's a way of life

A few images of miners (coal or ore) in Venus and Mars, medieval house book, published by Prestel. They have specifically designed hoods to stop the dust and bits falling down their necks, also in one what looks like the corner of a sack over the head, something coal deliverers might have worn a while back. -------------------- history is in the hands of the marketing department - beware!
